This moves the nameplate firmly into the middle ground of the premium market and taking on the best offers in the industry.
The all-new Outback range was introduced in October 2009, boasting more space for both passengers and luggage, enhanced performance, more advanced technology, better safety equipment (seven airbags are now standard) and even higher quality than before. With features such as the Lineartronic Constantly Variable Transmission, electronic handbrake operation, and a host of revisions to both the 2-litre and 2.5-litre boxer engines, Subaru confirmed its intention to use a mixture of evolution and revolution with this latest generation design.
“This new flagship is a fitting addition to a model range that represents the way forward for the brand,” says Subaru Southern Africa’s brand and marketing manager, Grant Bowring. “The Outback has moved our quality and design standards onto a higher plane and while the premium positioning of the line-up has always been a given, in its latest incarnation it is clear that Subaru’s engineers have raised their game.
“With the range-topping 3.6R we are able to appeal to those discerning individuals who want a car which not only confirms their success and provides the opportunity to live life on their terms, but also one which boasts an exceptional level of performance – which can be safely used in all conditions.”
The Outback benefits from Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-Drive), which offers three different driving experiences in the same car. SI-Drive’s three settings (Intelligent, Sport and Sport Sharp) optimise fuel efficiency and ride comfort in stop-start city traffic, produce a lively response in flowing freeway or town traffic, or a rapid sporty drive on the open road.
