BMW has unveiled its updated X5 boasting an all-new range of engines, a revised iDrive system and a mild facelift to ready the car for fresh onslaught from the likes of a new Touareg, Cayenne and other rivals arriving soon in its niche.
Concentrating on enhanced BMW EfficientDynamics, BMW says all versions of the new X5 achieve the optimum balance between performance and fuel consumption in each of their engine classes. The range has a new flagship in the 300kW 600Nm TwinPower direct petrol injection turbo 4.4-litre V8 powered BMW X5 xDrive50i good for a 5.5 second 0-100, 250km/h, 12.5l/100km and 292g/km CO2.
Another newcomer is the The new 225kW 400Nm TwinPower Turbo with Valvetronic straight-six powered X5 xDrive35i, which replaces the 30i in the range in the light of the arrival of the new, higher profile X3 due soon. 35i gets to 100 in 6.8 seconds with a 235km/h top end and runs 10.1l/100km and emits 236 g/km
Our favourite X5, the all-aluminium TwinPower turbo common rail direct injection diesel is renamed xDrive40d in honour of its now 225kW and 600Nm for a 6.6 second 0-100, 236km/h, 7.5l/100km and 198 g/km. The range is rounded off by 180kW 540Nm 7.4 litre/100km 195g/km 7.6 sec 0-100 and 222km/h X5 xDrive30d to bring the whole range into compliance with EU5 emission standards.
All versions of the new BMW X5 are equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission as standard. The new 'box features innovative gear set configuration as well as minimum converter slip to offer outstanding shifting dynamics, optimised effectiveness and the highest degree of comfort while also contributing towards enhanced road performance and efficiency.
