Following Yvan Muller’s dream start to his Chevrolet career in the first race, Tarquini took the honours in the second World Touring Car race at Curitiba. This second heat saw a SEAT 1-2 as Tarquini’s teammate Jordi Gene took second spot.
Gene had been angling for a win as he got off to an awesome start by flying past polesitter Tom Coronel at the start. Coronel then crashed into Rob Huff on the second corner, putting paid to his race, while third-placed Andy Priulx managed to damage his BMW on the third corner.
This made it easy for Tarquini to advance from his fifth-position start, who only had Augusto Farfus and his teammate to overtake for the win, and this he managed to do by the third lap.
The two SEATs proved untouchable for the remainder of the race, leaving Yvan Muller and Alain Menu to fight over who would put Chevrolet on the final podium place, the latter succeeding.
Rob Huff brought his Chev home in fifth, after a long and hard battle with the BMW of Augusto Farfus, who ended up having to settle for sixth place.
With the first race meeting of the season out of the way, Tarquini and Muller share the championship lead with 37 points each, followed by Alain Menu (30), Robert Huff (28) and Jordi Gene (24).
