Peugeot has just released the first images of its upcoming 208 GTi concept, which will be the French manufacturer’s star at the Geneva Motor Show in March, previewing a forthcoming production version of the GTi.
As you would expect, it’s based on the three-door version of the new Peugeot 208, which is only due to go on sale in the UK in mid-2012. The GTi concept is powered by the 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine from the RCZ, fitted to a six-speed manual transmission.
At this stage there is speculation, as too how much power the engine will produce. Some suggest that the engine will develop 135kW and 240Nm, with a more powerful 147kW model coming out later on. There is other speculation that the base GTi model will have the 147kW engine, either way, you should expect a 0-100km/h time of less than seven seconds.
The 208 GTi is destined to take on the likes of the Renault Clip Sport and Ford Fiesta ST. The GTi concept will be fitted with 18-inch alloy wheels, a roof spoiler, dual-chrome exhausts, a more aggressive body kit and uprated brakes front and rear.
It’ll have a more driver focused interior as well with a small, flat-bottomed leather steering wheel, part leather gear lever, aluminium pedals and Nappa-leather covered sports seats.
