Car Loving Big in SA

9 Mar 2010

Research reveals that many South Africans love their cars more than they love their partners
Many South Africans love their cars more than their partners according to the latest research revealed by a national survey done by a top petroleum brand.

More than 1 000 motorists all over SA, drawn from various backgrounds and age groups were polled on their opinion of cars by BP Ultimate fuel, which revealed that many of them ‘love’ their cars more than their partners.

Double the number of men who participated in the poll disclosed they would sooner buy a luxury accessory for their car than a Valentine’s Day gift like flowers or expensive jewellery to show affection for their loved-ones.

Most men and women also admitted that they felt a true ‘connection’ or ‘love’ for their cars. This disproved the myth that it’s the men that are more passionate about their cars than women.

Women are equally enamoured with their cars and tend to be more faithful to one or two cars throughout their life, whereas men like to play around in the car park more.

Tristao Abro, BP’s Brands & Insights Manager says that there’s no denying that cars have a very special place in SA motorists’ hearts.

“From childhood our cars play a very important role in our lives, and judging by the poll, they are also a source of many happy memories.

“Given that the typical SA motorist spends close to four years of their life driving in their cars, it’s no wonder that we have developed such a special relationship with our cars,” says Abro.
