Convertible Lexus LFA spotted in Japan

17 Jan 2012

After Lexus cancelled the convertible LFA, we thought we'd never see a drop-top LFA, but we were wrong
After the success of the Lexus LFA supercar, it looked like the firm would create a roadster version. It seemed like a good idea, who wouldn’t want to hear that F1-inspired soundtrack from the V10 engine. Sadly though the project was canned because of turbulent market conditions but now a open-top LFA has been spotted.

The vehicle appeared during the D1GP Kick Off Drift event in Japan, where the crowed was surprised by the arrival of the convertible LFA. The unmistakable sound of the V10 engine confirmed that this was a genuine model but the question remains, is it an official prototype, or a customer’s custom job.

It seems more likely that it is a custom job, if you look behind the seats you’ll see a rather cumbersome looking roll bar. It’s unlikely that Lexus would have used one like this, which spoils the lines of the car.

Still you never know, but sadly this doesn’t indicate that production of the convertible is back on.
