The successor to the legendary McLaren F1 supercar is on its way and, according to a new report, could be revealed within the next 12 months.
Known within McLaren as the P12, it’s said to have dramatic styling with a double-bubble roof, while one source has already said that the styling looks more like something that came out the film iRobot.
As for power, you can expect a lot of it. It’s believed to be powered by a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that pushes out around 600kW. Here is speculation that the engine will be supplemented by an F1-style Kinetic Energy Recovery System that will be able to give the P12 short bursts of increased performance, although with 600kW on tap, does it really need that?
The car will ride on a carbon fibre monocoque chassis, similar to the one used by the smaller MP4-12C.
So what’s it going to cost? Early speculation puts it at basically $1 million, so R8 million, before the tax man has a go at it. Better start saving.
