More powerful Cali headed for Geneva

16 Feb 2012

Ferrari has just announced the first official details for its 2013 California, which will be lighter and slightly more powerful
Ferrari has just released the first official details bout its revised 2013 California, which is set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March. The 2013 model has lost some weight, as well as gained a few more ponies under its bonnet.

For starters, Ferrari will add the Handling Speciale package to the options list. This pack is said to make the car more focused and has been created to meet customer’s demands, moving the California away from its easy to drive, everyday roots towards a more typical Ferrari market.

The pack gives the car quicker steering, stiffer suspension and reprogrammed software controlling the car’s magnetorheological suspension, allowing it to respond u to 50% faster.

The Italian manufacturer has used new aluminium fabrication techniques to make the California’s chassis. This has allowed the engineers to make the car 30kg lighter than before, without affecting the structural rigidity.

Thanks to some tinkering with the engine, which includes a new exhaust, the California now has 22kW and 20Nm more than before, bringing the total output figure up to 360kW and 505Nm.

The additional power, plus the loss of 30kg, will make the 2013 California slighty faster than the old one and should be able to get from 0-100km/h a tenth of a second faster, 3.8 seconds to be precise.
