PSA Peugeot Citroën have just announced that it will be withdrawing from endurance racing with immediate effect, sighting the difficult economic conditions in Europe for this move. This will allow the firm to focus on upcoming car launches in 2012.
A press release said, "Peugeot prefers to concentrate its 2012 resources on its commercial performance and, in particular, ensuring the successful launches of the 208, 3008 HYbrid4, 508 RXH, 508 HYbrid4 and 4008,"
This is quite an unfortunate move by Peugeot, especially when you consider the success the team has had recently with its 908 Racer, which includes 14 victories out of the last 16 races, as well as the team’s double win at the 24 Hour Le Mans in 2009.
While Peugeot has had to ditch endurance racing, Citroën will continue to take part the World Rally Championship.
