After the Porsche 918 Spyder Concept debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March 20120, it didn’t take Porsche long to reveal that there was going to be a production version. Since then though, Porsche has been quite quiet about the whole thing.
Now though, there are some new details surfacing about the production version, which is set to be revealed in Frankfurt in 2013, before going on sale that same year.
Most of the important changes are happening under the skin, including modifications to the engine. The production V8 has apparently been based on the motor from the RS Spyder LMP2 car and the capacity has increased to 4.6-litres, compared to the concept that has a 3.4-litre engine.
Other engine-mods include forged lightweight pistons, a high compression ratio and a variable-pressure composite oil pump. Thanks to all these tweaks, power is said to be around 410kW, supplemented by three electric motors that give it a combined power figure of 537kW.
