SCOOP - BMW Stretches Five for China
11 Mar 2010
Special long wheelbase new BMW five series stretched to suit the specific needs of the Chinese |
BMW has reacted to the special needs of the Chinese car market by developing a long wheelbase new 5 Series specifically for local needs there. Long five will be launched at the Beijing motor show at the end of April.
The rear cabin of the China special has been extended by approximately 150mm between the B and C pillars to create a midrange limousine riding on a similarly longer wheelbase to cater for a significant chauffeur driven Chinese middle class that wants the space but does not want to spend the extra on a full-blown stretch Seven.
The long five series will probably be available in both twin scroll turbo 535iL and biturbo V8 550iL incarnations and will be limited to the Chinese market only. That in effect also brings 5 to a four car range with the new GT, the forthcoming sedan, the yet to be launched Touring sedan and this Bejing limousine...
