Toyota has officially taken the wraps off its new Le Mans racer, the TS030 Hybrid that is set to race in the LMP! Class at this year’s Le Mans.
The car features a carbon fiber chassis and is powered by a naturally-aspirated 3.4-litre V8 engine, coupled to a hybrid system with capacitor storage, dubbed the Toyota Hybrid System – Racing.
Toyota has remained quiet about this system but from what we know the firm is evaluating a front motor system as well. Whatever the team decides to do, regulations will limit the system to recovering 500kJ between braking zones, as well as restricting the deployment of that power to only two wheels.
Toyota has also announced that two cars will compete in Le Mans, with the first car driven by Alex Wurz, Nicolas Lapierre and Kazuki Nakajima. The second team is still being assembled and should be confirmed soon.
The car will continue to undergo testing ahead of its race debut at the Six Hours of Spa Francorchamps that takes place on the fifth of May.
