Toyota to revive Supra?

21 Dec 2011

Not long after the GT 86 has been launched it seems Toyota has plans to build a Supra successor

Toyota’s been busy lately. At the Tokyo Moto Show last week the Japanese firm unveiled the GT 86, the spiritual successor to the Celica. Then, just a few days back, we brought you news on a hotter GT 86. Now it looks like Toyota is planning to develop another sportscar, this time a Supra revival.

The chief engineer for the GT 86 project, Tetsuya Tada, has said that Toyota could offer two additional sportscars. “The 86 will be a mid-size sportscar,” he said. “I would like to have one smaller and one larger.” He went on to say that the larger car would be a Supra successor, but while the vehicle is under consideration, it has yet to be given the green light.

Rumour has it the new Supra could be with us as early as 2014, but there’s very little to go on at the moment.
