Unknown McLaren discovered

13 Jan 2012

A previously unknown version of the McLaren MP4-12C has been discovered and only five have been made
A video recently surfaced on the Internet showing us a car we never knew even existed, a special version of McLaren’s MP4-12C. The special version is called the HS, or High Sport, and according to some sources only five have been made.

The MP4-12C HS features a completely redesigned front end that is said to maximise downforce and airflow to the intercoolers. This added airflow means that McLaren engineers to increase the car’s boost pressure, increasing output by around 56kW. This means it should have a total power output figure in the region of 505kW, meaning that it’s no longer a Ferrari 458 rival, it’s more like an Aventadoor rival.

At the back the HS has been fitted with a new rear bumper with vents that are very similar to those found on the MP4-12C GT3 racer, along with an extended diffuser and a modified active rear wing.

The sources has also revealed who two of the owners are, one of these HS models is owned by the crown prince of Bahrain while another is owned by McLaren’s executive director, Ron Dennis.

Sadly, with such a limited number of models, it’s unlikely any journalist will ever get to drive one. We would love to know how it handles the extra power.
