A report has just hit the Internet saying that Volkswagen has just confirmed production of a hot version of its Up!, the GT. The concept was first seen at the Frankfurt Motor Show and now it’s headed for production.
The standard Up! Is powered by a three-cylinder engine that develops either 44kW or 55kW but naturally the GT will get a bit more power. The engine has been fitted with a turbocharger that will boost its power to 73kW, which will be sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.
With 73kW in such a small car, it could be relatively quick. There’s no word yet on what VW has done for the handling side of things but it’s unlikely that the GT will use standard suspension and brake components.
