Impreza sedan buyers now have the option of another specification level, thanks to the recent introduction of the racy RS.

There are changes on the inside too. Body-hugging high-back bucket seats are fitted giving the driver an enhanced feeling of being in control thanks to the additional contact area with the torso. And because Subaru understands how important those man/machine interfaces are for driving connoisseurs, the steering wheel is leather-trimmed.  With a steering column adjustable for reach and rake, it is possible to achieve the perfect driving position and any competition driver will tell you how important comfort is.

A six-CD in-dash shuttle allows for the pre-loading of favourite artists, while the steering wheel controls make accessing individual tracks and discs easy, 10 speakers pumping sound out crisply and clearly from every corner of the car.

Under the bonnet is the free-revving 110kW/196Nm 1994cc DOHC boxer engine, which uses just 8.9 litres/100 km in mixed driving. There’s plenty of torque across the rev range but it likes to be revved too: peak power is at 6400 rpm and working through the ratios and taking the engine to the redline inbetween each shift is a recipe for plenty of driver satisfaction.

With cabin space for five and with a deep boot and a 60/40 seat split to the rear seat, the 2.0RS is able to combine the role of practical family sedan with that of sharp-edged driving tool – and whatever the need or the mood, the driver enjoys the benefits of Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive. It means there’s a higher probability of staying out of trouble, and if AWD isn’t enough, the RS also has VDC stability control.

With the Impreza sedan’s taut chassis, sharp steering and plentiful grip, affordable performance is now available at Subaru Southern Africa’s 21-strong dealer network for just R269 000 for the five-speed manual and an additional R10 000 for the  SportshiftTM automatic. The price includes a three year or 63 000km full maintenance plan.
